As one of the country’s longest-standing galleries, we are a forum for encounters with contemporary art and for acquiring works that give voice to multiple views and perspectives. Our main focus is on Austrian painting and sculpture, within which we concentrate on works by renowned artists, many of whom are considered among the best in the world.

We are proud to look back on a history of more than 100 years: art has been our passion since 1921, when the gallery was founded by Josef Szaal, grandfather of the current directors, Horst and Wolfgang Szaal. Each generation has left its own mark on the family business, helping actively to shape Vienna’s cultural landscape.

We share our enthusiasm for art with many people. Over the course of the decades, we have developed manifold contacts, connections and friendships, with artists as well as with a wide-reaching circle of art lovers. Holding solo and group exhibitions both at our gallery premises on Vienna’s Schottenring and as part of major art fairs, we encourage interaction between art and audience, and help contemporary art to gain in reach and recognition.

In the knowledge that life without art would be possible but bleak, we are firmly convinced that lively discourse and a life lived with works of art is a source of great enrichment.
